Laura Amico

Laura Amico is a journalist and entrepreneur. In Sept. 2010 she launched Homicide Watch D.C., an innovative platform for data-driven coverage of violent crime. The platform is used by other news organizations including The Trentonian, Sun-Times, University of Colorado Boulder and Northeastern University. Laura believes Homicide Watch proves that the right tools make effective reporters more powerful, and with Glass Eye Media she is working to bring their narrative data approach to other beats and projects. Laura was an inaugural Nieman-Berkman fellow in journalism innovation at Harvard during the 2012-2013 academic year. She is a New York Times Chairman’s Award winner, a Knight News Entrepreneur Boot Camp alum, and an inaugural MJ Bear fellow. She enjoys working with student journalists and she frequently guest lectures and mentors young reporters. Spare time? Farmers markets, cooking, tennis, exploring New England, and reading fiction.
